Ieyasu Tokugawa’s Fondness for Atami Onsen
There is a record of Sir Ieyasu Tokugawa staying at Atami for 7 days in 1604. It’s said that he had Atami’s hot spring water brought to Edo Castle about 112 KM away. He even had it delivered as far as Yamaguchi prefecture when he visited the ill Sir Hiroie Kikkawa. It’s clear from all of this how much he loved Atami Onsen.

Cuisine

Yuyado’s kaisekiryori (banquet cuisine) is esteemed by guests who want to enjoy Japanese cuisine to the fullest. Atami is blessed with abundant local ingredients. Fresh seafood is delivered from nearby Suruga and Sagami Bays; from the foothills of Mt. Fuji we receive vegetables and the finest quality beef. Prepared with time-honored techniques and our head chef’s expert sensibilities, our superb traditional cuisine expresses the four Japanese seasons.

We also offer delicacies such as rock lobster sashimi, live abalone barbeque, and shabushabu (a hot pot of thinly sliced beef with vegetables). We stock locally crafted sake, and quality wine that accentuates Japanese food.

Local Izu Cuisine Soy sauce boiled alfonsino

Soy sauce boiled alfonsino is a local specialty of the Izu region. We pride ourselves in the mild, refined flavor of our fresh alfonsino prepared by traditional Atami style boiling. Please give this special local dish a try.
